Pretty Under the Weather

13 Jan

As I mentioned in my last post, this week I went to CES.  As to be expected – it was a whirlwind…it was filled with keynotes, press events, and tech stuff on one hand…and DJ sets by Lil Jon and somehow finding myself being filmed and syndicated before 7am by NBC…no coffee…no early notification.  No do-overs are scary!  Just ask Michael Bay…after seeing his keynote online, I wasn’t too worried.

One of the things that I can never quite escape while attending these Las Vegas conventions is the weird version of the common cold-bird/swine/sars-flu everyone seems to get.  Sadly, this was just my warm up.  I have 2 more of these visits on the horizon.

Fresh OJSo, I’ve spent the past 48 hours sweating/freezing/hacking up a lung…and trying to rest and pack in as much goodness into my body as possible.

On the list of goodness, was the Chicken and Barley Soup I featured a few weeks ago {click for the recipe}.  I also managed to put the little oranges that I grew this year to good use by putting them through the juicer.

As a grand finale, I boiled some ginger to make ginger tea.  If you’ve never done this, it’s dreamy and simple.  Ginger root + Water.  It’s spicy so it’ll clear your sinuses and is a great stomach soother.  If you want to give it a whirl, take fresh ginger root – a couple inches of it is perfect – peel it, and drop it in to a pot of water.  Boil the water for 20-30 minutes – the longer, the spicier the tea.  Add honey, sugar, or nothing at all and enjoy!

I made this when we were under the weather. I boiled the ginger for 30 minutes and I was surprised with how smooth it tasted.
